Matt Majesky - Owner
I'm allergic to dogs.
So of course, when I was a kid, all I ever wanted was a dog. I begged and begged my parents for one but my allergies were terrible and with the barbaric allergy tests and adrenaline shots I needed in the 70's, this wasn't a chance they were willing to take. I swear my sister still holds a grudge. Jump a few years ahead to college. My roommate wanted a dog, a BIG DOG! The folks at the pound gave him a German Shepherd. He had that face, those paws, the markings. Jabali named him Major Taylor, after a groundbreaking professional cyclist. Taylor turned out to be a Beagle/Dachshund mix. A great dog, a happy dog, but a big dog only in his mind! Jabali went back to the drawing board (he eventually brought home the sweetest Greyhound rescue you’d ever hope to meet) and Taylor was mine! Taylor had a great run, followed by (but not replaced by) Ernie, a wonderful, sweet, Australian Cattle Dog rescue. Flash forward again - after 25 years of managing bookstores (which was real good...until it wasn’t) I had to spend some time in my backyard recuperating from an injury, our current pup Scout (and ADR’s full-time mascot) by my side. I thought "There has to be a better way - how can I spend as much time with my pup as possible and still pay my bills?" And this folks, is how the vision of Acme Dog Run was born. I quit that corporate job and dove head first into creating what I think is the most unique dog hang out spot in Brooklyn. Not only will we take care of your pup for you but you can stay and hang with your pup before or after work! Have some coffee, listen to some tunes and have your spirits lifted by one of life's greatest pleasures, happy, playing dogs! We can't wait for you to join us!

Sara-Sun Cangelosi - ManagerSO, I was always a cat person...
We always had cats and hamsters growing up but I always wanted a dog so bad - a Cocker Spaniel especially. I never got that dog... Fast forward to 2005. I was completing my degree in Graphic Design and I scored a great job working for the last farm in Bergen County, NJ. I worked for them full time at the NYC Greenmarkets for 12 years - It was the absolute best job I ever had, that is, until I started working with dogs... In 2009 I got my first dog, a Rat Terrier named Jables (named after Jack Black) After getting him I dove head first into the world of dogs and anything dog related, I was in love! 2 years later I got my second dog, Wren - another Rat Terrier, we had a great little family. Then I scored a job at a dog daycare, my obsession was growing. Unfortunately the daycare was shutting down and I had to look for other work besides the farm and the occasional logo design. In 2011 I came across a van with a "Dog Daycare in Bay Ridge - coming soon" sticker on the side and blindly gave it a call. It was a new business, not yet open - in fact still being built. The owner hired me to be his manager and for the next 4 years I had the pleasure and honor of raising and caring for hundreds of dogs through the years, an experience that has changed my life for the better and taught me so very much about everything and anything dog related. I've since managed 2 dog walking companies which have allowed me to make so many more amazing dog and human friends in Brooklyn! Now it's time to make some more! How lucky am I?! |
