1. Just adopted?/New pup?: How soon is too soon for daycare?
We love puppies! And we love rescue dogs! And we hope that they love us! As such, we want them to love you most of all! Give your pup or your rescue some time to bond with you and your family before passing them over to our able hands. In our experience, pups that are comfortable with their place in the world do the best in daycare and boarding. We require you wait at least 4 weeks after adoption, and even more if your pup is extra young, clingy or unsure of themselves
2. Do you separate the big dogs and little dogs?
No. Our run is significantly larger than those other guys’. Dogs do a pretty good job of deciding who they want to play with and a pretty good job of letting dogs know who they don’t want to play with. That said, from time to time, we will split the run into two rooms. Even then, though, we’re not likely to separate by size, but by temperament and energy level.
3. What vaccinations does my pup need?
NY State requires current rabies and distemper (sometimes in your records as DAPP, DHPP, DHPPL, DA2P, or DA2PP) vaccinations and a bordetella vaccination before dogs can spend time with us. We may also, seasonally and depending on veterinarian recommendations, require a canine flu shot.
4. I’ve registered and uploaded my vaccination documents. Why won’t the system let me schedule my trial session?!?
Patience, patience! Our fancy system can’t read that uploaded file and input the info on it’s own! If you’ve registered and uploaded during regular business hours, we can usually get that back end stuff done in an hour or so. If you’ve registered and uploaded after hours, give us until 8:00 the next morning. Either way, you’ll get an email from us letting you know that you’re good to go. While we’re at it, this is also a good time to mention the email you’ll get after you’ve scheduled your trial session: READ IT! It’s probably the most important communication you’ll get from us!
5. Do you require evaluations and/or temperament testing?
Yes! A trial session is mandatory for all dogs wishing to enter ACME Dog Run for daycare. It is designed to evaluate for temperament in the pack as well as any separation issues that may be present, and to ensure their comfort in varied situations with a variety of pups. It also serves as a great chance for us to get to know your dog and more importantly, for your dog to get to know us!
6. I’m bringing my pup in for the first time for their trial session, I can’t wait to watch them enter the pack!
Sorry folks, this session is done without owners present to minimize the stress on your pup. For safety and to ease integration into the pack we do not allow owners to stay and watch their dogs enter the run for the trial session. In fact, we insist that you make drop off on this day swift and excitement free. And please, NO lingering outside trying to watch, (we know you want to!) but your pup will know you’re there and will only stress them out.
7. After my dog has proven to be a good doggo after their trial session (and we’re sure they will be!) do I have to schedule daycare in advance?
Yes! Because of the way we set up the run for anticipating new visitors for the day, it is important that you arrive at the time you've made your reservation.
